Hello, hello, my Friends! I am nothing short of DELIGHTED to curl up in my bed – along with with my coffee and my pitt-bull mix, Rue – to write you this Love Letter. I am simply full-to-overflowing with Love for The Pelvic Priestess & what it is all about, Love for the myriad of people – and synchronicities – that have helped me launch it, and Love for YOU – a brand-new member of The Pelvic Priestess Posse, with your own journey and lessons learned and a-ha realizations to contribute to our community!
I am Shakti Grace, and frankly I am a whole mess of contradictions. I am a doctor yet a mystic. An introvert yet an extrovert. A life-long Type A personality who is working hard to learn a new way of “floating more, steering less.” A staunch believer in science yet also a believer in mystery and magic, because I’ve experienced them personally. I like to eat healthy, yet the truth is I LOVE (and I do mean looooooooove) tater tots and cupcakes. I adore my kids yet they drive me absolutely up the wall. I’m funny, I’m quirky, I’m cute, and I’m also feisty and stubborn and occasionally irritable. (For more info, check out my bio and the Core Values of TPP.)
Professionally I own three pelvic health therapy clinics in North Carolina and have spent my career partnering with patients to help them heal from bladder, bowel, and reproductive issues, as well as from all kinds of pain. I am also an ordained Priestess and Shamanic Minister, and THIS is where my unique contribution arises:
I know a lot about pelvic health from a medical standpoint, but I ALSO understand the energetic and emotional complexities that are housed in our pelvis. I believe that the latter is even MORE important than the former, and that a combined approach of addressing the physical, the emotional, and the spiritual/energetic is how we can move towards true healing instead of a band-aid approach that simply covers up our symptoms … for a while.
I believe that we can use the pelvis – literally as well as metaphorically – as a vessel to fill with mind-body-spirit healing in order to restore balance, wellness, and joy to our entire Being.
While I dub myself The Pelvic Priestess, the fact is that – just like all of you – I’m LEARNING to be a Pelvic Priestess. I am a regular ol’ human being, with a lifetime of failures and mistakes and embarrassments. In fact, this meme describes me perfectly:
I’ve also suffered terrible losses and tragedies, some of which I thought I’d never recover from. I’ve also had a chronic illness – in 2015 I contracted Lyme Disease and was very ill for 2 years. I researched and tried ALL THE THINGS, and I had a deep fear that I was never going to get better.
But somehow, I DID get better, from all of these things. Better than ever, actually. From my own journey and from watching hundreds of patients over the years, I’ve learned that suffering can even be an enormous gift:
It is a catalyst for positive growth and change,
It brings us into deeper knowledge of and alignment with ourselves,
and there truly can be a lotus flower that blossoms out of all of that mud.
From these personal and professional experiences, I KNOW that miraculous healing can occur, physically, mentally, and spiritually, no matter how dire things seem at the moment.
But guess what else I’ve learned? We DON’T have to suffer to grow and to heal and to come into better alignment!
The belief that we do is almost universal and has deep, deep roots – we’re taught that to improve as a person, to heal, or to overcome obstacles, we have to suffer, right? Nope, not right.
What if we could find a different way? What if coming into alignment with yourself and finding health and ease in mind-body-spirit could be a joyful process? What if, instead of being fixated on the destination, we looked at it as a journey – granted, a journey that will NOT be as straight a line as we might like but will meander around a lot, a journey that might often feel like two steps forward and one step back?
But instead of getting discouraged and grumpy about that, what if we looked at healing as an OPPORTUNITY?
A real chance to:
The pelvic bowl can be our North Star on our map to wellness. We can turn our focus here and learn to “fill our bowl” with Sustenance, Sensuality, and Synergy to heal our entire Being and flood our life with joy instead of drudgery.
We are going to change our life, that’s how we’re going to do it. The vast majority of us are full-throttle living a ‘modern’ lifestyle. We are taught to prioritize working HARD and A LOT. And, truthfully, most of us are working hard even when we’re not at work – think about your ‘free’ time. Are you actually working HARD during that time – on your house and yard, on parenting, on care-taking of our elders and neighbors and community, etc, etc. ETC?!?!!! Think about your vacations? Are you actually often super-busy even on your vacation, and come back needing a vacation from your vacation?
If so, you’re not alone – it is deeply ingrained in us to prioritize WORK and MAKING MONEY.
As such, we are taught NOT to value:
We need to set aside time for ourselves and our own healing.
So yeah, we’re going to need to make some changes. And we’re going to need some support, because our entire societal structure and belief system are set up to hold our heads down in these ruts, believing these unsustainable assumptions that rob us of joy and balance.
This is what The Pelvic Priestess is about:
To think BIG!
To think outside of the box!
To orient ourselves, our lives, and our healing toward wellness and JOY!
Healing. Balance. Well-being. Joy. This is what TPP is all about. I hope you’ll join me for the best ride you’ll ever take.
In joy,
~Shakti
